Great and hackable

This radio is a great radio to assemble and works brilliantly and is great for people starting out in electronics. A few things to note. The sliding scale doesn't exist in the kit, it is for show only. The heart of the radio is actually on the small PCB within the box.

For the more experienced, the radio can be hacked. I did the following:

Radio is housed a nice wooden box as the cardboard case is flimsy. The aerial (antenna) goes to a BNC. The 0.5W speaker has been replaced with a 1.5W speaker and the tuning pot has been replaced with a multi-turn pot of the same value (so the frequency range is over a wider scale) and there is a panel mounted battery compartment for the 9V battery and an "on" LED with its currently limiting resistor has been added.
